Deep & Narrow vs Wide & Shallow
This is a topic I have been thinking about some quite some time. The difference between approaching something Deep and Narrow versus Wide and Shallow is having a single-minded focus on one thing.
This focus can lead to success in life.
“You can get almost anything you want out of life, as long as it’s one thing and you want it far more than anything else.”
Two Types of Focus
Notice how in both holes, about the same about of soil has been dug. You can use the same amount of energy doing both tactics, but make much more progress going deeper and narrower, once you know what you want.
How can you apply this idea in your English studies?

Hi Michael, I have been listening to your podcasts since last year, and they have proved valuable for honing English language skills. Typically, I listen to some of your episodes three times.
Now I’m thinking of making short videos to discuss some of your episodes. In this way, I hope that I will become an active learner.

Hi Muhammad, thank you so much for listening for so long and now leaving a comment. That’s a great idea for being more active in your studies! If you do decide to do that, let me know! (No pressure!)
Hi Michael, I’m about 99 per cent committed to making videos to talk about many of your episodes. Hopefully, I’d come up with a plan of action and share it with you before long. Probably, you may not realise, but your few encouraging words “That’s a great idea for being more active in your studies” provided just the spur I needed.
