Level Up English podcast 204 advice

Advice

This episode is based on a recent group class I taught looking at giving and asking for advice. In this episode, I’ll share some good and bad advice i’ve received, as well as ask you all advice on a few problems I’m facing. Of course, along the way we’ll look at many useful expressions too.

Phrases to Ask for Advice

  • I need some advice. I’ve no idea what to do.
  • I am at a loss as to what I should do. What do you think?
  • What would you recommend?
  • Have you got any ideas?
  • I’d appreciate your advice.
  • What would you advise me to do?
  • What would you do if you were me?

Phrases to Give Advice

  • If I were you… I would…
  • You should…
  • You ought to…
  • How about doing…
  • I would suggest…
  • You’d better…

  1. Hello Micheal,
I hope you are well. Your prodcasts are so useful and clear to understand. I would like to thank you for the most valuable prodcasts. I am planning to be one of your member but first I would to ask a question . My work are mostly in writing blogs, reports, and sometimes researches in English. I am trying to improve my English writing more and more. However, I don’t know any one who can check my writing and provide me with excellent feedback. Is it possible to check my writing if I become one of the members?

    1. Hi AB, thank you very much! Glad you’re enjoying the podcast.

Well as part of the membership, I give detailed writing feedback but generally only for specific writing prompts that I give. So for example, I will ask a question (eg. Describe a childhood memory) and people will respond with 150 words about it. I strongly believe this can help with writing and other areas of English. But this may not be what you’re looking for.

The other service I have is general proofreading on my other website here: https://ewmichael.com/proofreading
This is for anything you like and you can follow the link to see more information and contact me.

      Thanks!
