❓ Other Questions & Notes
Mr. Michal, I am mainly looking for your coaching in IELTS Academic Writing Task 2. I already understand the main points, such as the band descriptors and the general structure (Introduction, Main Body 1, Main Body 2, and Conclusion). My main struggles are spelling and how to start the writing—I often don’t know what to write in each section. I would like to practice together, so if you could prepare a legitimate Task 2 question, we can solve it together.

📝 1. Monday 20th October (Childhood Memory)
Original Writing
Childhood is full of unique memories that stay in our hearts forever. Even today, I still remember a moment from my childhood that taught me patience and endurance. It was during a long journey with my scout team, when I was given the responsibility of counting our steps, that this unforgettable memory was made. When I was 11 years old, in my hometown, I joined a group of boys of different ages in a scout team. Some of them I knew from school, while others were strangers to me at first. However, during a long walk to a nearby city, we gradually got to know one another. The journey was about 35 kilometers and lasted nearly 13 hours, with a few short stops along the way. My main responsibility was to count the distance using the road markers and record our progress. As a small boy, I was struggling, holding a bag that felt twice my size, and constantly wondering if I was counting correctly. I was so stressed and focused on the counting that I sometimes felt like crying. However, the leader of our group, who was also our geography teacher, kept watching me gently. He would smile and say encouraging words whenever he saw me counting the steps. Nowadays, when I reflect on that memory, I realise it left a deep impact on me. I still cannot forget the moment we reached our destination, and I was told that I was one of the most accurate counters. It taught me that hard work truly pays off. When the leader gave me a medal and a couple of chocolate bars, he said, “Small young boy with a huge determination, I am sure you are going to achieve something in the future.”
He kept watching me gently → He kept a gentle eye on me
This change uses a more common and natural expression.
I still cannot forget the moment → I’ll never forget the moment…
Your sentence is totally fine, but the suggested change sounds slightly more natural — ideal for nostalgic or surprising memories.
huge determination → great determination
A more natural adjective choice in this context.
📝 2. Thursday 13th November (Job Satisfaction)
Essay Feedback – Job Satisfaction vs High Salary
Red strikethrough = Remove | Green bold = Add/Correct | [#] = See comment below
Do you think job satisfaction is more important than a high salary? Why or why not?
Some individuals tend to believe that we have to look for jobs with higher salaries, while others argue that it is better to focus on been1 being satisfied with the job rather than the wage. In my opinion, both aspects should be considered; looking for a long-term job, where high achievement, satisfaction, and a good salary are all possible.
One major reason why people choose choice2 a job with a high salary over satisfaction is financial stability. When people are financially stable, they will be active workers and show their potentials and contributes positively at work. For instance, many high-load companies offer their employees a good salary so they can fulfill their family’s needs and focus only on the job. Therefore, having a good salary helps people persona become financially independent.
On the other hand, some argue that people should concentrate on job fulfillment where it is healthier in on3 the long run. They believe that when individuals invest in on long-term happy jobs, they will be able to discover their top skills and work harder. For example, many athletes have been representing their national teams for free, and they justified that by saying “we like doing it for the glory”. Therefore, having a job you enjoy will eventually develop a habit which leads to indefinite motivation.
In conclusion, although some people think that having a high salary job will produce an independent, well-respected persona4 and others think the long-term happiness will pay off, personally I strongly believe having a well-paid job with fulfillment, will assure sustainability and independence independability for people.
Detailed Comments
Being = Continuous tense. We also use ING verbs after a preposition (in this case ‘on’)
→ Choose = Verb
For example, I could say “When my teaching persona turns on, I never use bad language like curse words”
Overall Feedback
Fantastic writing, Omar! You used a lot of really high-level words, excellent structure and punctuation, and I had to make very few changes. If we’re talking about IELTS scores, I would give this at least a 6.5, maybe 7 (although to be clear I’m not an examiner, so it’s a rough estimate).
You responded to the question well, and stated your view (mixed) in the introduction and conclusion, which is great. You also go into good detail about reasons for your opinion and don’t sway too far from the main question topic. You paraphrased the question in other words, although if you wanted to take it further, you could change “higher salaries” to something else like “well paid jobs” and “satisfied” to something like “pleased” or “content”.
I’d say the organisation (paragraphs) are perfect, making it easy to read, and you organised the paragraphs well into two main body texts focused on different reasons. I like how you structured with “one reason…”, “On the other hand”… These phrases also help your writing.
To improve, consider using a wider range of words for structure. Try for example: “in contrast”, “as a result”, etc.
Some of the words you used are great and definitely higher level.
Knowing how to use compound adjectives correctly (long-term) is good.
There are just a couple areas to focus on:
- Word form: (Independability → independence)
- Preposition choice: (Invest on → Invest in)
- Verbs vs Nouns: (Choice → Choose)
- Word meanings: (Persona → People)
Although none of these areas are really repeated much, so it may not be a big problem.
A good range of structures overall. It’s obvious you’re using more complex sentences and linking them together, and the punctuation is helping make it clearer too.
I made one change at the start from Been → Being, so make sure you’re familiar with the difference between this and when to use ‘being’.
One area that came up a few times was when to use ‘a’ correctly, and adding an S:
- and a good salary → In many cases like this, we either need to add “a” if it’s singular, or “S” if it’s plural. Often both can be correct.
- they … show their potentials and contributes
- we have to look for jobs with higher salaries → Same comment as before. We can say “with a higher salary” or “with higher salaries”
But overall good! Just minor changes. Well done!
New IELTS Question
Many people believe that individual actions, such as recycling or reducing plastic use, make a real difference to the environment. Others think only governments and big companies can solve environmental problems.
Do you agree or disagree?
