Geographical Superlatives
I’m exploring a topic I truly love today and looking at the most unusual and strange places on our planet. I’ll be talking about the highest cities, hottest places, coldest places, and much more in today’s episode. This is a great opportunity to practice your knowledge of superlatives (using EST to talk about the most of something).

Superlatives
Superlatives are words that either use ‘est’ or most to talk about the number 1 or top of something. We always use ‘the’ before as well.
For example: The best podcast! The biggest platform. The cleanest audio.
The Highest altitude city: La Paz, Bolivia, sits at about 3,640 meters (11,942 feet) above sea level.
The Lowest point on Earth: The Dead Sea, bordered by Jordan and Israel, is about 430 meters (1,411 feet) below sea level.
Largest desert: Antarctica is technically the largest desert, covering about 14 million square kilometres (5.5 million square miles).
The Most isolated island: Tristan da Cunha in the South Atlantic Ocean is over 2,400 kilometres (1,500 miles) from the nearest inhabited land.
The Deepest ocean trench: The Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean plunges to about 11,034 meters (36,201 feet).
The Longest mountain range: The Andes stretch for over 7,000 kilometres (4,300 miles) along the western coast of South America.
The Hottest place on Earth: Death Valley, USA, has recorded temperatures as high as 56.7°C (134°F).
The Coldest inhabited place: Oymyakon, Russia, can reach winter temperatures below -50°C (-58°F).
The Driest place on Earth: The Atacama Desert in Chile gets less than 1 millimetre of rain annually in some areas.
